One person was killed Thursday morning when a plane crashed in the Midlands area of South Carolina, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The aircraft went down on Red Top Road in Lynchburg, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s near the intersection with U.S. 76.
One person was involved in the wreck and died, according to the release. The Lee County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the crash victim.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about where the aircraft departed from, and its intended destination was not available.
The FAA has been contacted is responding to conduct an investigation, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office is asking people to avoid the area and use caution if traveling nearby. Emergency responders are on scene managing the incident and ensuring public safety, according to the release.
In addition to sheriff’s deputies and the coroner’s office, the Lee County Fire Department and Lee County EMS also responded to the scene.
