Columbia’s Main Street, certainly, has changed quite a bit in the last decade or so, adding new restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and apartments, with more on the way. And yet, even with all the new moves, some places remain stalwart. One of those is Drake’s Duck-In, located for years at 1544 Main.
While it underwent a major renovation in 2024, Drake’s remains a go-to spot for fried chicken, breakfast, cheeseburgers, lemonade and more. On a recent lunch stop at Drake’s, I had to go with the undisputed heavyweight champion: The chicken filet sandwich.

That one comes on a soft bun with mayo and pickle and two — yes, two — hulking filets of fried chicken. This is the stuff of downtown Columbia lunch legend. Long live Drake’s
