Even though airports are designed to be as safe as possible and to get travelers in and out quickly, achieving a high customer satisfaction rate is easier said than done for many airports.

To find out which airports in North America provide the best experience for travelers, JD Power, a global data analytics company, surveyed over 24,000 U.S. and Canadian residents who’ve traveled to at least one airport.

The resulting data was released in the group’s 21st annual North America Airport Satisfaction Study, detailing traveler satisfaction rates of every airport in North America.

There were three separate airport satisfaction rankings, based on airport size: Mega airports are defined as those with 33 million or more passengers per year; large airports with 10 to 32.9 million passengers per year; and medium airports with 4.5 to 9.9 million passengers per year.

In South Carolina, a local airport not only ranked but also had the highest customer satisfaction score out of all the medium-sized airports in North America.

  • Ontario International Airport: 705 customer satisfaction index

How is customer satisfaction measured?

To determine which airports are best for travelers, JD Power measured passenger experience across several factors, including airport accessibility, check-in and baggage check, terminal facilities, baggage claim, overall satisfaction drivers, food, beverage, and retail, as well as the airport’s strengths and weaknesses.

The group first began surveying travelers at airports across North America in July 2025 and published all its data on Sep 16 this year.
